Hi there, and welcome to our Children's Ministries Webpage for Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church.

At Jarvis, we believe our children to be one of our most precious assets, truly the foundation of the church of tomorrow.  We also believe that our God has blessed us with an amazing world full of beauty, variety, and opportunities for creative expression.  God celebrates our creativity and wants us to use all the gifts of his creation to teach his word and the message of his love as revealed so powerfully in the gift of His Son.

With that in mind, our Christian Education program is organized, using "rotational model" for teaching.  Children are God’s Creation; each child is a unique individual with God given gifts and intelligences. They have different learning intelligences, spiritual gifts, and capabilities.  By teaching one Bible Story or Theme over a 4-7 week period, we can present the material in several learning modalities, assuring that all children will have the opportunity to receive the information the way they learn best. Our goal is for children to learn these Bible Stories so they can retell them, and learn specific attitudes and actions for faithful living in everyday situations, and to help them grow spiritually every step along the way of their spiritual journey. These concepts and stories will guide children toward a faithful vision of who God truly is, the God of love and grace.  The Rotations program is grounded in Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences educational theory. This theory affirms that we are created in God’s image and that children do not all learn the same way.

We hope to see you at Jarvis Church.  Come, visit our Sunday School or call us anytime for more information about Christian Education at Jarvis.

A Great Ministry of Christian Education Needs Folks Like You!

 We Need Your Help!

Capable volunteers with talents in many areas are critically important to the success of our ministry.  Here are some current needs:

TEACHERS:

Your commitment to teach is always short-term.  Rotations teachers teach in one classroom for the duration of the rotation, (usually 4-5 weeks), and will teach several grades. They will attend a preliminary Bible Study and lesson plan meeting, prepare the lesson, and follow a format for teaching which includes prayer and reading out of the Bible.   Teachers are welcome to join more than one rotation a year.

SHEPHERDS: Shepherds can commit for the entire school year, or rotate as a team, assisting the teacher once a rotation. The shepherds provide a constant  loving presence, address discipline problems, take attendance, remember birthdays and get well cards, and support teachers in any way needed.

DESIGN TEAM: This group includes people with artistic and interior design skills, as well as those creative folks who would like to support their efforts.  The group will help plan our classrooms and facilities which are devoted to the Rotations program. They will work with related committees within the church, and maintain and adapt rooms if necessary.

TECHNOLOGY TEAM: We’re looking for folks with special skills like computer networking for short-term projects, but also need people who are just good with gadgets and willing to pitch in to help some of us who are not!
